King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a world-class UK hospital Trust operating across five sites in South London and Kent, as well as providing specialist services to patients from across the UK and around the world.

As one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals, King’s sent a team to Australia in November 2017 to directly recruit Nurses and Midwives at the British Nursing Job Fairs in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.

Over the course of the campaign, King’s interviewed 69 Nurses and Midwives and made 58 job offers, with 42 candidates accepting a job with the Trust.

Of the 42 Nurses and Midwives that accepted a post with the Trust, 88 per cent didn’t require an English language test and 24 per cent didn’t require a Certificate of Sponsorship as they already had the Right to Work in the UK.

The savings to the Trust in terms of IELTS and Tier 2 visa costs was approximately £40,000.

Following the success of King’s first trip to Australia, the Trust returned in June 2018 to attend the British Nursing Job Fairs in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.

This time King’s interviewed 102 candidates and made 97 job offers (95 per cent of those interviewed). The 97 job offers in June 2018 represented a 59% increase from November 2017.

As at 30 September 2018, King’s expects to successfully recruit 35 nurses from the first trip to Australia in November 2017 and a further 50 from the second trip in June 2018, bringing the total number of nurses and midwives directly recruited in Australia to approximately 85 over a 12-month period.

The combined savings to the Trust in terms of IELTS and Tier 2 visa costs for all 85 candidates (November 2017 and June 2018) was £128,567.

Steve Taylor, Senior Workforce Operations Manager, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust shared his feedback on the success the Trust had in Australia, “Our first trip to Australia resulted in 42 job offers with 35 Nurses that have either started or scheduled to start with the Trust. Our initial success in November 2017, prompted the Trust to return to Australia in June 2018, leading to a further 50 projected hires, bringing our total to 85 in less than 12 months.”
